About

Designing products that reduce friction, not just decorate it.

I am Roger Li, a product designer currently pursuing a Master of Education at Lakehead University. My background combines product design, service operations, and communication-heavy work, which keeps my design practice close to real people, real constraints, and everyday use.

Profile

Good design should reduce the amount of effort people need to spend.

I care about the quiet work inside a good product experience: the structure behind a flow, the visual hierarchy that helps people know where to look, the language that lowers uncertainty, and the accessibility decisions that make a product feel dependable instead of fragile.

My work sits between UX thinking, UI craft, front-end awareness, and operational reality. I like shaping ideas into interfaces that feel polished, but still practical enough to build, manage, and use.

Experience & Education

A path shaped by design, operations, and education.

My background is not only visual design. It also includes operations, service systems, and graduate study in education. That mix helps me design products that are not just attractive, but easier to understand, communicate through, and return to over time.

Current

Lakehead University

Master of Education

Currently studying education with a growing interest in learning systems, accessibility, communication, and how people understand complex information.

This academic work strengthens how I think about guidance, cognitive load, and product clarity.

Recent

Elite Appliance Repair

Administrator

Worked in scheduling, records, customer communication, and day-to-day service operations. This experience sharpened my understanding of how people depend on systems that need to feel clear, responsive, and usable under pressure.

It also gave me stronger instincts around workflows, edge cases, and the small details that make service tools succeed or fail.

Product Design

Contributed product design work focused on clarifying user flows, improving interface coherence, and making digital experiences feel simpler and more intentional.

This role strengthened my ability to move between problem framing, UI decisions, and implementation-aware product thinking.

How I Work

Structure first, then feeling.

I like design that has a clear skeleton and a human surface. The interface should feel considered without asking the user to admire it before they can use it.

Clarify

I start by separating the real user goal from the noise around it, then turn that into a simpler product structure.

Shape

I design flows, layouts, and interface states that make the next action easier to understand.

Refine

I tune spacing, language, visual rhythm, and responsive behavior until the experience feels calm and usable.

What I am looking for

I am most interested in product roles where design helps complicated services or workflows feel calmer, clearer, and easier to trust. I work best where I can connect strategy, structure, visual craft, and implementation reality instead of treating them as separate disciplines.

Beyond case studies

I also use small experiments to sharpen my taste and test interaction ideas. Some of those live in the Play section as a lighter companion to the formal portfolio work.
